school is back in session for me starting this past monday. it promises to be an interesting semester...and i do not yet know if that is a good thing or not.

i'm taking intermediate algebra (the final remedial math class), world geography, zoology, and government. so far the only class i am really concerned with is zoology. it's been well over a decade since i had any kind of science class...and i was never all that great in it to begin with. so i am going to really have to work my ass off in that class to do well. i know i can, it will be a matter of applying myself and actually putting the work into it TO succeed. so wish me luck with that.

Phoenix got his glasses wednesday...that's been interesting as well. he's not real keen on 'em...and getting him to leave them on has been kind of a struggle. but honestly, that was expected. and we have a tentative date for his evaluation...it's supposed to be this coming friday and she is going to call me back with an exact time. so maybe we can get him into the PPCD program and get that underway. i hope so.

i am so glad this is a holiday weekend...i need the time to be able to do all the reading i'm supposed to be doing and make sure i understand and remember everything i read. i will do well. i have said this before. but will is a very powerful word when placed into action. and i will. no matter what stress comes, no matter how tired and frustrated and wanting to be unwilling i am...i will. and i'll stop that train of thought before i break out into a chorus of "we shall overcome"...lol

tomorrow we're off to see the fam...i'm making dinner for mom, dad, bro, sis in law, and eric and myself to celebrate my mom's 50th birthday this past thursday. i can't believe she's 50! she certainly doesn't seem like what you would expect a typical 50 year old woman to be. and that's a good thing. i adore my mom....well, both my parents, actually. so that ought to be a good visit. and brother mine, if you read this, we need to talk about oni-con so don't let me forget. lol

alright...i think i have blogged sufficiently...heh.

so today Phoenix was sitting with me...and i asked him...Phoenix, are you a boy or a girl? and he looks at me and says...a boy! i kiss the top of his head and tell him that's right, he's a boy. so then i ask him...is momma a girl or a boy? and he says a girl! and i tell him he's right and how smart he is...

then, i ask him....is daddy a girl or a boy? he only pauses for a moment...before telling me, quite confidently, a daddy!

apparently daddies are entities unto themselves.

well other than working friday night, it's been a pretty darned good weekend.

we had a little get together here last night and i for one had a good time...i hope that everyone else did as well...
i made dinner for everyone...we had rainbow enchilada casserole, spanish rice, and refried beans. it was yummerz. we watched Cars...that was kinda strange..lol...and we played lotsa games. Kareoke Revolution, Dance Dance Revolution, and Guitar Hero. got good pictures of that as well. :)

today the fam and i went around town...eric got some shorts..i got to pick out a new wedding ring set and it's on lay-away...very pretty. :) eric and the kidlet had lunch...(i wasn't hungry...*shrug*)...and then we got some stuff from wal-mart...including a new web cam for me...yay...!

so while it's mundane stuff...i feel like we had a good weekend. next weekend we're going to Louisiana for a baby shower...one of eric's best friends and his fiancee(?) are having a little girl...so that will be fun. :)

i hope the rest of you had a good weekend as well...

so...here we go. we're gonna start the"getting ready for school" routine tomorrow morning...this will give Phoenix (and me too, ugh) a chance to get used to getting up at 6 in the morning. we're gonna get up and do the whole nine yards....bath, breakfast, getting dressed, all of it. the only thing we won't be doing, of course, is going to school til next Monday (the 14th)

so this is gonna be interesting...i'm a total night owl and don't usually go to bed til 11-12ish at the earliest. so i am basically going to be trying to force myself into bed at 10 at the latest. at least i say i am. you know, til i find something more interesting to do! LOL

phoenix's dr. appt is Tuesday morning...so keep us in mind then...hopefully i won't be a wreck and eric and i will be able to express our concerns articulately...and hopefully the dr. will be helpful. 'cause if he's an ass about any of it, i will have no problem looking for a new dr. even though that would really suck...he's already phoenix's 3rd. dr in 4 years. long story, that...if you wanna know then ask me sometime. it's nothing traumatic, just nothing i want to go into all the details of typing out here. heh

so yeah...keep your fingers crossed 'cause heeeeeere we go!

most of you know i have been pretty frazzled lately. getting my baby ready to start school...getting ready to go back to school myself...dealing with general life stuff...just basically trying to keep it together.

i just wanted to take a moment to show some much-deserved appreciation to my family and my friends. you guys don't always know it...but by being there for me to talk to...whine to, sometimes...listening to me rant about the same things over and over and over again...you don't always know how important to me you all are. some of you are able to make me smile...laugh...a few of you have helped to save my sanity (at least that's what it feels like) on more than one occasion.

so to my friends and my family...thank you. my brother said recently that the main difference between a family member and a friend to him was a blood relation. and for my closest friends, i feel the same. but ya know, some of you i'm glad i'm not related to...that could be awkward, huh? (LMAO...yeah, you know who i'm talking to...*snOrt*)

you all make the difference to me. your friendship, love, and support gives me the mental strength to prepare my child and hopefully myself for whatever may come from here.

so from the bottom of my heart....thank you all.

much love,

Rachel

so last night while i was at work, eric had taken phoenix with him to the hospital to see his mom after her surgery. they were waiting in the waiting room for a couple of hours and apparently phoenix was getting impatient. eric said he (P.) was just watching tv and happened to be sitting by a fire alarm switch.

so, what happened next?

you guessed it.

before eric could get to him to stop him, phoenix pulled the damned alarm.

shut the a/c, phones, and elevators down in the entire hospital for half an hour.

phyllis told him later that she knew something was going on because it was about that time they were about to finally move her to a room and then they couldn't because the elevators wouldn't work. when she found out it was phoenix who was responsible, even SHE laughed. and she had just had major surgery!

eric didn't find it nearly so funny. poor guy.....

*giggling*

i can't help it. only MY son could shut an entire hospital down.

we had phoenix's birthday party yesterday. as usual we had a houseful. we had briefly talked about having it outside but it was just too hot for that. all in all it went very well. the theme was "Finding Nemo" and the cake turned out really well. thank goodness for capable bakery people. lol eric got "Guitar Hero" as a belated birthday gift and everyone had a turn with it that was there still. we got some pretty funny "rock out" pics with that, too. and Phoenix, of course, made out like a bandit. the funniest thing was when he opened his gift from V. she had gotten him a Go, Diego, Go toy set....and he was ready to dismiss everyone else afterward. haha! it was great.

today my mother in law had her hysterectomy. eric just called to let me know that she made it through with no complications and is now in the recovery room. he is going to go see her later this afternoon and if she feels up to it i may try to see if we can stop by after i get off work tonight.

and as my latest update on the weightloss, i've lost 24 lbs so far. that means i'm only 2 more lbs away from my summer goal! that is very exciting, indeed.

of course i still have a lot left as far as my overall total....but i am really feeling good about progress made so far.

that's pretty much the lowdown with what's going on here....
